Focus Group Discussion on Infrastructure and planning Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Representatives from the Government, Hotel Industry, Tour Operators, NGOs and Industrialists participated in the workshop. Discussion points The infrastructure and planning mechanism and changes required in the planning systems which will aid current and future infrastructure developments in Puducherry were discussed. Experts also deliberated at length on the infrastructure projects which need to be taken up in the next five, ten and fifteen years in Pondicherry, Karaikal, Yanam and Mahe. Suggestions given by the participants Regional development plan to connect Pondicherry, Auroville, Tindivanam, Cuddalore and Villupuram was suggested. Extension of airport, innovative transport management solutions, better road, rail and air connectivity, moving wholesale markets outside the city premises, new towns, affordable housing for the poor, development of master plan, regional development plan and a stronger regulation for unauthorised real estate development were some of the other measures suggested.
