Focus Group Discussion with Trade Union Leaders, labourers and relevant stakeholders Thursday, January 29, 2009

Representatives from various trade unions and industries participated in the workshop. Discussion points Representatives from various trade unions and industry discussed about the challenges faced by Trade Unions in Pondicherry, Karaikal, Yanam and Mahe. The group also discussed about the role that the Trade Unions can play in development and growth of industry in Puducherry. Suggestions given by the participants Minimum wage enforcement, availability of power for industries, forum for regular interaction between management and labour unions and quick mobile courts to address labour grievances and disputes were proposed. The group also suggested that transport facilities for workers – bus rapid system – should be one of the prerequisites for any industry seeking license.
