Focus Group Discussion in Mahe Monday, February 9, 2009

Representatives from the government, educational institutions and Industrialists participated in the workshop. Suggestions given by the participants A modern fishing harbour with amenities such as cold storage, subsidized ice and diesel supply, Farmer information cells/kiosks, major roads to be widened, Mahe–Tellicherry bypass road at Chalakkara, outstation allowance for Government staff and open playground for children were some of the suggestions made by the experts who participated in the focus group discussions in Mahe. The experts also suggested that the backwaters in Mahe have to be developed with houseboats and homestay huts/ heritage houses on the banks to promote tourism. Mahe can also be developed as a residential and business centre similar to Dubai said the participants.
