Focus Group Discussion in Yanam Saturday, February 7, 2009

Representatives from the government, educational institutions and Industrialists participated in the workshop. Suggestions given by the participants Fishing harbour in Yanam, cyclone warning system, e-Governance, visit to Yanam by various heads of departments at least once in two months, imax theatre, boat houses along Gowthami river mouth, a bypass road in co-ordination with the Andhra Pradesh government to enable industrial traffic to flow uninterrupted, NH 214 to be made 4 lane, increase in teachers in schools, establishment of a Govt. film institute and strengthening of casuarina plantations/ mangroves on Yanam Islands to check erosion due to floods were some of the proposals made by the experts who participated in the focus group discussions in Yanam. Construction of heritage hotels, introduction of water sports facilities and promotion of eco tourism were some of the other suggestions made to promote tourism.
